Facebook Fan Freebie! Motion and Speed Activities for your Interactive Science Notebooks; Grades 3-6

First, let me tell you how much I LOVE interactive science notebooks!!!  I use so many resources from The Science Penguin that my kids know that name by memory.  If you've never been to her blog or TPT shop, you really should.  Now that I've been using ISN I don't know how I could go back to my old system of "read the book and take the test".  She has something for everyone and I can't wait to try her Science Weekly Five next year.
Being a teacher in Florida, my standards are a little different.  One area where I needed a little more for my notebooks was with motion and speed.  I still wanted my kids to add it to their notes so I made up my own note-taker, task, and experiment.  After doing it all with my kids I decided that I loved it so much that I would give it to some of my facebook fans for free!

In this activity students go over/review vocabulary, complete a task, and conduct and experiment!

Here are my definitions, but you can change them to meet your needs/standards.

In the task, students must use their knowledge of fact families to find the distance a truck travels.

In the experiment, students measure the distance and time it takes for a car to go down ramps at various heights, and use that knowledge to find the speed.  This also requires a little long division on their part as well.

All you have to do to get this freebie is become a facebook fan, click on:
Hope you like it!!!

SMAD! Math Fact Fluency Program Launch & FREEBIE!

Hello all!

I've been hard at work creating my newest file:  SMAD!
SMAD is a math fact fluency program for grades K-5.
The goal is for students to have their basic math facts MEMORIZED and not rely on their fingers or tricks to count out their facts.  Having the basics memorized will help students later on with more complex math concepts. I think all of us can remember the time in our education that we were required to learn those basic math facts.

This program also allows for differentiation with your students.  Those students who still struggle with addition and subtraction can get more practice with those skills while others move on to  more advanced math.

Here is a basic flow chart to give you an idea of the, well, flow!

I've put together a starter pack for FREE so that you can see what the program is about!

SMAD Math Fact Fluency Program - SMADster Awards!
Each grade has 4 levels (Kindergarten has 6) of timed tests for students to master by the end of the year. Students must score 100% to move on to the next level.  If a student passes an entire grade level of SMAD, they can move on to the next grade level.  You can keep track with a teacher recording sheet and students have there own as well!
